Abstract

The ( n, 2 n) reaction cross sections averaged over the U-235 and Cf-252 fission neutron spectra are predicted by applying our empirical rule of the linear dependence of the cross section on the threshold energy. Confidence intervals of the predicted values are estimated with 95% confidence level. It is shown in the Appendix that logarithmic values of the ratios between the cross sections for Cf-252 and U-235 fission neutron spectra depend linearly on the reaction threshold energies but are independent of neutron excess-numbers of target nuclei. Using the empirically obtained relation, the Cf-252 spectrum-averaged cross sections of nuclei with neutron excess-numbers less than 2 are estimated from the U-235 spectrum-averaged ones tentatively predicted.
