Abstract

This study applies the finite element method (FEM) in conjunction with an abductive network to predict maximum forging load and billet dimensions during near net-shaped helical gear forging. Maximum forging load and the billet dimensions are determined for different process parameters, such as modules, number of teeth, and helical angle of the near net-shaped gear forging, using the FEM. The abductive network is then utilized to synthesize the datasets acquired from numerical simulations. Finally, prediction models are established for predicting maximum forging load and the billet dimensions under an appropriate range of process parameters.
