Abstract
In this paper, we present an algorithm to predict the residual link lifetime in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) by making use of Kalman filter based prediction technique. Assuming Gauss-Markov mobility model for the vehicles, the algorithm initially finds the relative location coordinates and velocity of the vehicles and using this information, the residual lifetime of the communication links are determined. Simulation results show that the procedure adopted for the prediction achieve good performance in the presence of velocity changes.
