Abstract

Higher heating values (HHV), as well as carbon, hydrogen, sulphur, nitrogen, chlorine, ash, lignin and extractives contents have been experimentally determined for initial, extractives free, extractives and lignin free samples of pine, alder and rape straw.HHV of cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, extractives for softwood, hardwood and plants are recommended. Systematization and analysis of 30 equations for prediction HHV of the biomass based on the structural composition were carried out. For 20 equations, a relationship between the coefficients correcting for the contributions of lignin and extractives was established. Two equations for predicting HHV of the biomass based on the lignin and carbon contents with an error no worse than 2.7 % are proposed.
