Abstract

: Lubrication plays a crucial role in enhancing the life span of engine or machine components by reducing the friction which occurs between sliding surfaces. The oil properties are also differed and amp lified by the addition of Nano- particles as additives. In the present work, Graphene 20nm and 30nm sized nanoparticles are used as add-ons in SAE 20W40 type oil and tested its influence on tribological properties of steel SS 202 and SS304 alloy coupons and investigated for wear volume, wear coefficient, and viscosity index. The sample weight percentages of 0.1wt.%, 0.2 wt.% and 0.3wt.% of Graphene Nano-particles are added in SAE 20W40 engine oil with diverging loads, speeds. An Ultrasonic probe-sonicator and magnetic stirrer are used to mix the nanoparticles to the engine oil. The prevailed results evince that engine oil added with Graphene Nanoparticles marches high viscosity, good friction reduction, anti-wear properties, and decreased the coefficient of friction compared with results obtained by usage of standard engine oil when it is used as lubricant without Graphene Nano-particles.
