Abstract

In this research, the Al2O3/MoS2 nanocomposite coating layer was applied on the surface of Ti-6Al-4 V alloy by hybrid method (combination of Electro-Spark Deposition (ESD) and oxidation methods). Atomic force microscopy (AFM) analysis and pin-on-disk wear test method were used to study the surface and the wear resistance of the samples, respectively to determine the relation between them. Results showed that by applying a nanocomposite coating, the wear rate was decreased by approximately 59.5%, with a roughness of 248 nm and hardness of 718 Vickers was 1.15 × 10−4 mm3/m. Considering the obtained results, the influence of surface parameters such as roughness, coating thickness, and hardness on the Lancaster coefficient was studied and an equation was proposed to calculate it.
