Abstract

The adoption of intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is associated with increased levels of complexity in many aspects of clinical practice, including planning, plan evaluation and quality assurance. The modulation complexity score (MCS) has been previously introduced as a means of quantifying IMRT beam or plan complexity via a single metric. The purpose of this work is to use the MCS to define the complexity of head and neck IMRT and to evaluate the relationship between complexity and dosimetric accuracy (assessed through patient-specific quality assurance (QA) measurements).
