Abstract

The use of ICDs has led to a reduction in mortality in patients with persistent left ventricular dysfunction after a MI. However, studies have failed to demonstrate a decrease in mortality with early implantation post MI. The PREDICTS score (PREDiction of ICd Treatment Study) has recently been developed to predict LVEF recovery to >35% at 90-day post MI in patients with acute MI and severe left ventricular dysfunction. A higher score (ranging from 0 to 8) is associated with a higher likelihood of recovery. This tool could allow early identification of patients who are at high risk of sudden cardiac death and will likely need an ICD. We aim to validate this score in an external cohort.
