Abstract
AbstractThis study examined factors that predict performance on the National Teacher Examinations (NTE) Core Battery. We found strong relationships between a student’s undergraduate grade point average (GPA), American College Test (ACT) subtests, and the NTE Core Battery tests. We developed and used regression equations to predict NTE Core Battery test scores for a cross-validation group of students whose scores were not used in developing the original equations. Predictions ranged in accuracy from r = .73 for professional knowledge to r = .92 for general knowledge. Results are discussed in terms of comparing current predictors of success on the NTE Core Battery with past predictors of success on the NTE Common Examinations and the implications for teacher educators.
