Abstract

A linear programming model of Type 430 stainless steel melting process has been devised from the technical and practical factors involved. Although further refinement of the model is presumably desirable to make it applicable to specific shops and furnaces, the technique appears to have great potential as a guide to the design of the most economical practice for using available materials in the production of stainless steel.
