Abstract

When two; arts are ii contact surface roughness causes contact to occur at discret contact spots. Number of contact spots and their individual size are essential Informations to understand many tribological situations. They can be predicted from geometzical intersection between surface and plane – the surface roughness contour map. In this paper variation of contact spots size distribution with intersection level was evaluated from contour mads of surfaces produced by common machining processes. This was compared with contact spots distribution obtained for surfaces deformed plastically
