Abstract

AbstractTo predict the deep favorable gas zone in Songliao Basin during the fault period is an important component of work on expanding prospect area in the Basin. In order to carry out large‐scale oil and gas exploration in Songliao Basin, we chose Shengping‐Xingcheng structure within the Xujiaweizi fault depression as oil and gas resource base to perform the ground three‐component seismic exploration, and reached a feasible prediction method . Using the geologic data with control of deep exploratory wells, the three‐component seismic data, the P‐wave and P‐SV wave layer calibration, and seismic phase correlation, we predicted the distribution of volcanic rocks in the fault period. We then forecast favorable gas zone of Yingcheng formation in the fault zone after calculating and analyzing the physical parameters, such as the amplitude ratio and frequency ratio. We further analyzed the effect of the regional tectonic structure in the fault‐zone stratum. After analyzing the types of hydrocarbon source rocks, their level of maturity and volcanic reservoir performance, we believe that there is a greater extent of deep gas‐bearing zone in the Songliao Basin. Finally we conclude that the three‐dimension and three‐component seismic technique is necessary for reliable prediction of deep gas‐zone. We also outlined in this paper an extended application of predictable knowledge to areas with no control wells or far from the effects of exploration wells.
