Abstract

Purpose: In people with established knee OA, exposure to high dynamic loading is associated with worsening knee cartilage morphology. Yet, habitual runners, who experience high loading rates do not show an increased risk of developing OA. This apparent contradiction likely requires that we identify factors that modify the relationship between loading and knee joint health. The purpose of our work was to evaluate potential factors that influence the relationship between cumulative loading to affect cartilage knee outcomes.
