Abstract

Abstract A model that predicts capillary crossflow into the layers adjacent to a high-permeability layer during waterflooding is presented. A material balance on the injected water that includes the water loss to the adjacent layers by capillary imbibition is solved by Laplace Transforms to obtain equations for the areal extent of the watered zone and the fraction of displaced oil coming from the adjacent layers.
