Abstract

The purpose of this study was to document predictive relationships between behavioral regression and a number of client characteristics for hospitalized children. A behavioral checklist designed to measure regressive behavior was administered to 53 subjects in a modified equivalent time series design on evenings when the therapeutic recreation program was in operation and again when no program was offered. The dependent variable items were transformed into a Guttman‐type index of regression. Two discriminant analyses were run: for evenings with the child life program offered, and no‐treatment evenings. Discriminant functions and associated decision rules were presented which will enable the practitioner to classify individual subjects as to the likelihood of regression.
