Abstract

Vegetative shoot apices of 14 tree species at Oak Ridge, Tennessee were studied for 1 year (1964). The average interphase nuclear volumes, estimated interphase chromosome volumes and ratios of volumes in actively growing to dormant plants were determined. Results indicate that the predicted range in sensitivity between species for any month, approximately a 17-fold range, is constant even though the predicted sensitivity of individual species changes with respect to time.
