Abstract

The majority of Americans are overweight or obese.1 While clinicians continue attempting to address body weight, a myriad of factors may limit the implementation and effectiveness of weight loss interventions, including social determinants of health, insurance coverage, motivation, mental health concerns, provider hesitancy, and patients’ perception of having a healthy weight. As such, numerous weight-related comorbidities (eg, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, cancer, fatty liver disease, gall stones, diabetes, and prediabetes) continue to cause a significant decrement in the health and wellbeing of Americans.
