Abstract

As engineering has entered precollege educational spaces, researchers have recognized a need to learn more about the nature and process of the engineering education as part of the larger educational system for all students. Recently, the International Technology and Engineering Education Association (ITEEA) updated its standards to provide an up-to-date roadmap for promoting technology and engineering education and curriculum design from Pre-K through 12th grade. The National Academy of Engineering began to assemble committees of engineers and educators to develop a series of reports advocating for the importance of technology and engineering education for all citizens, starting with Raising Public Awareness of Engineering and Technically Speaking. Situating engineering, as well as technology, more firmly in their societal contexts and learning knowledge not only of engineering but also about engineering is important to advance equity and issues of the social justice.
