Abstract

In order to prevent damage to the periodontal tissues of the remaining teeth, the cantilever-attachment system has been introduced and recommended for retention of removable partial dentures. In the suggested restorations, the removable denture is retained by a Dalla Bona type of external attachment to the pontics of an anterior fixed prosthesis. The system allows a certain amount of vertical movement of the bases. Its greatest advantage is, however, that all cervical surfaces and gingival regions of the abutment teeth can be easily and efficiently cleaned with or without the removable denture part in place.
