Abstract

1. The dependence of the chemical shifts in the HClO4,H2O system on composition have special features observed in the form of plateaus and inflections on the graph of a derivative, which can give information on the structure of the solution. 2. At temperatures below 30°C, the higher proton hydrate has a 1∶13 composition, while at temperatures above 40°C, a ∼1∶30 composition. 3. The proton hydrates are bound to the environment by H-bonds, which are similar in their characteristics to the H-bonds of pure water. 4. Changes in the chemical shifts of protons as a function of composition correlate with changes in density.
