Abstract

The excitation energy Eexc of the second excited state in 6Li has been measured by recording the de-excitation γ-rays from the 6Li(p, p′) 6Li ∗ (3.56 MeV) and 9Be(p, α) 6Li ∗ (3.56 MeV) reactions. The γ-ray spectra have been recorded at supplementary angles with respect to the direction of emission of the recoil 6Li ∗ nuclei and a method has been developed to determine E exc with an error of ≲ 1 keV. The weighted average of the two measurements is E exc = (3562.9±0.6) keV.
