Abstract

Conventionally agronomic practices have been developed for implementation by considering field as homogeneous unit having similar properties. If we can find out various homogeneous management zones, within a field, based on the information of soil fertility, crop vigour, soil moisture, etc., the inputs could be customized for the specific sites. Precision Farming involves matching resource application and agronomic practices with soil properties and crop requirements as they vary across a site. The goal of precision farming is to gather and analyze information about the spatial variability of soil and crop conditions in order to optimize the efficiency of crop inputs based on specific farming, which has the potential to reduce costs through more efficient and effective applications of agronomic inputs. Precision farming requires an integration of various technologies such as remote sensing for its potential for monitoring spatial variability in field at multiresolution satellite data temporally, GPS for exact locations to assess the spatial variability and site-specific applications of the inputs, GIS for creating different layers and outputs and field equipment’s for variable rate application. In this direction, a case study has been done in Mukantpur village of Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand state. Different thematic layers have been generated such as LULC, soil map (Texture, Drainage and Depth), ground water prospect map, DEM, slope map, aspect map, digitized all crops map with field number this field wise information is analyze information about the spatial variability of soil and crop conditions in order to optimize the efficiency of crop inputs based on specific farming, which has the potential to reduce costs through more efficient and effective applications of agronomic inputs.
