J. Abstract A method of transforming Cartesian coordinates to equatorial coordinates using 20 plate constants, and a correction procedure involving the use of a weighted inverse squared error function are described. A plate of the Pleiades cluster taken with a 40/60/150-cm Schmidt telescope was measured by the GALAXY machine. After corrections for proper motions the mean residuals between the catalogne and computed values were 0.002+0.009 in right ascension and +0>103+0>114 (standard deviation) in declination. The standard deviations of these residuals correspond to 1 m on the plate. magnitude or color dependence was found for the GALAXY measures in the ranges of these variables considered. The reduction method worked satisfactorily in the region measured. Publication: The Astronomical Journal Pub Date: May 1972 DOI: 10.1086/111284 Bibcode: 1972AJ.....77..306D full text sources ADS |
