Abstract

Visual range radiation emitted by an ultrarelativistic electron beam at bending magnet edges and within elements of the beam optics (steering magnets, quadrupole lenses, etc.) in storage rings is very sensitive to horizontal and vertical angular divergences, transverse sizes, emittances, energy, position, and trajectory tilts of the electron beam. Precise computation of the radiation intensity distributions with due regard for nonzero beam emittances, layout of storage ring magnet structure, and measurement scheme peculiarities allows one to obtain the electron-beam parameters from the measured radiation intensity distributions. The radiation computation technique and the experimental equipment adjusted for the beam diagnostics on the Siberia-1 electron storage ring are described. Experimental results on measurements of the radiation intensity distributions in the Siberia-1 ring and the corresponding electron-beam parameters determined by the method under discussion are presented.
