Abstract

One conventional method of increasing the capacity of power transmission lines and also decreasing the corona discharge in the vicinity of the conductor surface is to use conductor bundles. In such a case the high-voltage gradient surrounding the conductor is reduced. Calculation of electric field strength for bundle conductors is normally done by replacing these conductors with a single equivalent one. Using an equivalent conductor, the electric fields calculated on the surface and in the vicinity of the surface of bundle conductors are generally far from their actual values. This paper presents a new formulation based on image method for precise electric field calculation. It is used in the traditional algorithm for electric field calculation of bundle conductors, and the calculated values of the electric field for some cases are introduced and compared by the corresponding values presented in the references.
