Abstract

AbstractUsing aggregate precipitation and the mean temperatures of July and August for 1766–1980 and seven 30 year periods, the relationships between precipitation and temperature in England and Wales summers are investigated. Wet summers tend to be cool and dry summers warm. The highest correlation coefficients are for the two most recent 30 year periods. In contrast to winter, there is no evidence of changed precipitation temperature relationships in recent years. Between 1766 and 1985 there were only two summers with precipitation above 200mm and temperature above 17°C.
