Abstract
Sir : We welcome the opportunity to respond to Bogie and Lawless’ discussion of our paper on the submillimeter-scale oxygen isotope variation of vein quartz from the low-sulfidation style gold deposit at the Hishikari mine. The disputed point is whether or not the bladed and fine-grained quartz precipitated initially as chalcedony and recrystallized to quartz in a subsequent stage. Similarity of texture between chalcedony, e.g., typically found in agate, and flaky or acicular bladed quartz suggests that there is some truth in Bogie and Lawless’ idea.
