Abstract

Cadmium 8-hydroxyquinolate, Cd(C9H6NO)2 .2H2O, was prepared by the conventional method and from homogeneous solution. The crystals formed by the conventional method were generally hexagonal plates and some of them were constructed by smaller crystals. The unit cell of crystall is monoclinic with ao=13.74Å, bo=5.28Å, co=11.36Å and β=106°18'. But from homogeneous solution small needle crystals firstly formed and they gradually changed to hexagonal plate crystals. The needle crystal structure is probably tetragonal with ao=bo=10.3A and co=13.9Å. Its crystal recrystallized and transformed to the hexagonal plate crystal by aging.
