Abstract

A precession measurement is reported for the 2 + state at 132 keV in 150Nd. A suitable environment of low perturbation was provided by letting the excited nuclei recoil into argon. The decay of the recoiling nuclei was observed in flight. A further property of this environment is that the precession of the excited nuclei is due to the externally applied magnetic field only; the paramagnetic amplification associated with an atomic environment at thermal equilibrium is absent in this case. The measured g-factor is g( 150 Nd) = 0.333±0.051 .
