Abstract

Abstract There are several sedimentary sequences in India which show little or no metamorphism. Among them the most ancient appear to be the Bijawar and Gwalior Groups, older than 1800 Ma, and the Cuddapah Supergroup, 1720-1200 Ma old. The Kolhan Group is possibly ca. 1530 Ma old. The sedimentation in the Vindhyan Supergroup ranges from 1400-550 Ma. The Pakhal Supergroup appears to be older than 1275 Ma, and the sedimentation in the Chhattisgarh Group possibly started ca. 650 Ma ago.
