Abstract

Gordon surveys the content of the Oxford and Cambridge Magazine, a Pre-Raphaelite periodical which appeared monthly between January and December of 1856, under the editorial guidance of William Morris and William Fulford. It sounded a vigorous note of protest against the values of life in the Victorian age and coupled the aesthetic revolt of William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais, and Dante Rossetti with the social dissatisfaction of Carlyle and Ruskin.
