Abstract
A pre-project study of a nuclear desalination demonstration plant has been jointly carried out by Morocco and China for Tan-Tan, Morocco under the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The plant will produce 8000 m 3 per day of potable water using a 10 MWth nuclear heating reactor developed by China coupled to a high-temperature multi-effect distillation process. This paper presents the outline of the Tan-Tan project, including the main features of the reactor and desalination plant, siting and environmental impact assessment, and economic evaluation.
