Abstract

A 31-year-old woman reporting a headache and epigastric pain for the past 12 h attended our unit. She had a history of gestational hypertension and 5 days earlier had a caesarean section at term; there had been no post-partum haemorrhage and she had been allowed home. The patient's haemoglobin concentration had been 11·7 g/dL (normal >10 post partum), and the serum creatinine concentration 48 μmol/L (normal <90); she was normotensive and on no medication.
