Abstract

The paper is a brief – out of necessity – analysis of Metal Gear game series created by Japanese author, Hideo Kojima. The main subject of the analysis was Kojima’s unusual approach towards worldbuilding, gameplay mechanics and his storytelling with the use of various narrative means and strategies. Another topic studied here was Hideo Kojima’s connection with postmodernism mainly in regard to the series’ trademark feature – constant breaking of the forth wall. The final part of the paper concerns Kojima’s so far most ambitious work – Metal Gear Solid V, which is depicted here as a kind of narrative puzzle.
