Abstract

This paper deals with a number of epistemological ambiguities in pragmatic theories. In particular, stress will be placed on the fact that a great amount of idealization is still presupposed by pragmatics. The author claims that it is necessary to develop alternative theoretical models in which the hic et nunc uses of language (here referred to as ‘discourses’) are the places where subjects are constituted with their social features. This viewpoint entails a notion of ‘ideology’ not as ‘superstructure’, but as a level of reality offering patterns of identity to subjects.
