Abstract

The article discusses fundamental changes in the UK labour market; opportunities the Government is helping to create for individuals to play a greater part in their own development (Training and Education Councils, Training Credits, Career Development Loans, National Vocational Qualifications); the role of employers in training; and the steps Government is taking to raise training higher on the business agenda (National Training Awards, the “Investors in People” standard).
