Abstract

Web pages, a visual and text medium, have bedeviled the hospital librarian with their imprecision since the inception of the Web. Anyone, regardless of credentials and knowledge, can create a consumer health Web page. This egalitarian nature of the Web is sometimes its downfall. The Web is fraught with bad consumer health information. How does one critically view a Web page? There are acceptable protocols already in place for viewing other medical visual media such as x-rays. Using protocols, the Web can be safely surfed.
