Abstract
Postpartum questionnaires from two populations of women who had had preparation for birth were investigated to determine the amount of practice time of basic techniques that was associated with optimum pain reduction. Results indicated that practice of neuromuscular release for a minimum of 5 minutes a day was associated with less pain during the active phase of labor; practice of breathing techniques for a minimum of 10 minutes a day was associated with less pain during the active und transition phases of labor, and practice of husband and wife together at least occasionally was associated with less pain during transition. Afore extensive practice times did not lead to further pain reduction during labor and birth.
