Abstract

Objective To investigate and summarize the main stomatological service and practical medical experience during overseas medical mission in Oceania and Central and South America, so as to provide evidence for similar medical service in the future. Methods Based on the oral diseases diagnosed and treated on the main platform of the Stomatology Department during Mission Harmony-2018 , a retrospective analysis was made on the distribution and features of oral diseases in the 10 countries of Oceania and Central and South America. Results Of all the outpatients during the overseas medical service in 10 countries, oral diseases ranked the fourth, with the diseases of periodontal tissue disease, caries, non-carious dentine diseases as the main disorders. The drugs consumed were mainly metronidazole tablets, compound chlorhexidine gargle, pain-killers and so on. Conclusion Following completion of Mission Harmony-2018 , a preliminary understanding of the oral health status in Oceania and Central and South America was obtained, Practical experience was summarized, rational suggestions concerning medical personnel drafting, the disposition of materials and equipment and introduction of new technologies were proposed. Consequently, solid evidences could be provided for similar medical service in the future.
