Abstract

The development of relative humidity systems that produce high-moisture environments from which low-moisture rice (or other cereal grains with a horny endosperm) can readily readsorb moisture and subsequently fissure are described. The equipment encourages hands-on experimentation in the field to help explain why low-moisture grains may fissure before harvest or thereafter whenever such grains are exposed to a moisture adsorbing environment.
