Abstract

In Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) networks, Base Stations (BSs) cooperatively process User Equipment (UE) connected to multi-points to eliminate the inter-cell interference. CoMP networks convert the interference signal into useful information by controlling the interfering signals among adjacent cells. This is important for UEs at the cell edge. This paper examines practical deployment of CoMP and investigates its enhancement to the spectral efficiency and Signal-to-Interference and Noise Ratio (SINR) in practical inter-site and intra-site CoMP scenarios. We consider the topography and terrain data of Al-Khobar city in Saudi Arabia to evaluate the received power and SINR behavior and estimate the SINR improvement in practical CoMP networks.
