Abstract

Rigorously speaking, power systems state estimation (SE) results aim at allowing the operator to take decision in order to assure network security. Therefore, in order to assure reliable information, SE results must be obtained through a very robust algorithm. In this work, the algorithm employed to solve the state estimation problem is based on the orthogonal iteratively re-weighted least-squares (OIRLS). This paper focuses a lot of practical SE results taking into account wide range of operative scenarios for carrying out offline studies. Most of these studies are addressed for supporting short term operation planning and feedback the operation standards. The selected cases were extracted from the historical operation at the EMS of the Brazilian South State Electric Utility, that is known as CEEE and is headquartered in the city of Porto Alegre - RS, Brazil. Interesting field operation issues are commented and reported in the paper.
