Abstract
27 children were investigated fully for hookworm anaemia. Tetrachlorethylene in large doses (0.1 ml. per kg. of body weight) for 3 doses on alternate days with calculated total dose of iron (Imferon) given intramuscularly on a single occasion, was found to be non-toxic with rapid improvement in the clinical condition of the treated children. Slow transfusion of one pint of whole blood was reserved for severe cases with protein calorie malnutrition, with satisfactory results. The out-patient use of TCE in the treatment of hookworm infection is recommended in circumstances similar to those of this investigation along with the depot iron (Imferon). A plea is made for more use of tetrachlorethylene in eradication programmes against hookworm.
