Abstract

This paper presents an approach to solving a Preventive Security Constrained Optimal Power Flow (PSCOPF) problem with two sample applications in power system planning and operation. One application is to address N-1-1 contingency analysis as a part of NERC TPL standard compliance studies and another is to perform reactive compensation planning to mitigate post-contingency voltage problems. The approach features the modeling of full AC power flow equations, contingency filtering and Benders decomposition, as well as an iterative process that includes optimization of system control settings and AC power flow solution to verify the effectiveness of the controls.
