Abstract

AbstractThe results of dynamic and quasi‐static loading tests for scaled and full‐scale Lead Rubber Bearing with Fail‐Safe mechanism, an alternative isolation bearing that consists of a conventional lead rubber bearing and a slider bearing in series, are discussed. The test results show that the torsional behavior of the lead rubber bearing component in bi‐directional loading does not significantly affect the limit state of the bearing. Moreover, both dynamic and static friction coefficients are estimated with high accuracy by utilizing a newly proposed effective surface pressure instead of the conventional mean surface pressure. The proposed bearing can be used in practical applications in an isolation system with a high seismic safety margin.
