Abstract

In conventional frame analysis, the behavior of beam-to-column connections is treated as either pinned or rigid joints. In recent years, extensive theoretical and experimental work has produced accurate connection models as well as good design methods. However, these methods are complex and their applications are cumbersome. Thus, practical design of partially restrained (PR) frames (Type PR Construction) is seldom made in engineering practice, even though it can offer a more realistic and rational design approach. This paper provides a practical method for the design of Type PR construction for design office use.
