Abstract

The purpose of this study was to locate a reservoir simulation model that will predict the mixing of gases in a gas storage reservoir. The three major mechanisms that govern a mixing process are gravitational effects, molecular diffusion, and dispersion. Operating procedures (injection/withdrawal rates, pressure levels, choice of wells for injection or withdrawal, etc.) affect the magnitude of these mechanisms and, therefore, can control the degree of mixing in a reservoir.
