Abstract

There isn't any convenient idiom to translate the word “screening” of cervical/vaginal smears into the French language. That is the reason why we are taking the opportunity to introduce it in English in this paper as well in its title, as we are wishing to claim the difference between the so-called screening and the definitive diagnosis. After having defined the screening, as it is usually understood in the British language, we describe the ancillary as well as the new methods. As screening for precancerous lesions of the cervix is a developing technique, continuing education of pathologists and of cytotechnicians has to be organised. Thanks to an image data bank, the teletransmission of images is one of the most interactive and friendly goals.
