Abstract

Setting: Tertiary care pediatric hospital. Patient: A 7-year-old boy. Case Description: The boy was involved in a motor vehicle collision and suffered an atlanto-occipital dislocation secondary to impact from a passenger side airbag. His American Spinal Injury Association grade was classified as C2-level, grade A, although he also suffered damage to cranial nerves 9 through 12. In addition to recommendations for deep vein thrombosis prophylaxis, bowel and bladder regimens, spasticity management, and skin protection, physiatry was asked to investigate options for environmental interaction.
