Abstract

Setting: Veterans hospital inpatient unit. Patient: A 40-year-old man with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and history of recurrent deep vein thrombosis (DVT), with compartment syndrome. Case Description: The patient presented to the rehabilitation clinic complaining of new onset left thigh pain and swelling, with foot paresthesias. Left lower-extremity (LE) examination showed increased warmth, swelling, and tenderness with intact pulses. Spasticity was increased in the left leg. International ratio (INR) was elevated at 4.03 and Doppler ultrasound (US) of the leg was performed to rule out DVT.
